Term Lecturer (Food & Nutritional Science)

Major Duties: |
(a) |
To assist in managing the operation and resources of the Food Science Section; |
(b) |
To be responsible for the planning, development, implementation, quality assurance and administration of food science related training programmes; |
(c) |
To develop, review, update and monitor the curriculum and syllabus of training programmes to meet with the latest needs of the industry, and to conduct food science training in Food Preparation and Food & Beverage related programmes; |
(d) |
To plan, organise, develop and conduct food product research and food quality analysis; and to monitor food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with ISO22000 standards; |
(e) |
To provide advice on food legislation, preservation and product development, the nutritional and bacteriology aspects of the industry; |
(f) |
To establish and maintain close network with professional bodies / government departments / hospitality and culinary organisations etc.; and |
(g) |
To oversee the procurement, maintenance and commissioning of plant and equipment in the food science laboratory. |

Requirements: |
(a) |
A recognised degree in Food and Nutritional Science, or equivalent; |
(b) |
At least 3 years’ relevant teaching and / or industry experience, preferably in hotel and catering industry; |
(c) |
Applicants having the following experience, knowledge and qualification would have added advantages: |

(i) |
Experience in food testing and / or test method development; and |
|
(ii) |
A food hygiene certificate from, or the membership of, the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), or equivalent, will have added advantages; |
(d) |
Good administrative ability and supervisory experience; |
(e) |
Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese, preferably with knowledge of Putonghua; and |
(f) |
Proficiency in statistical and common computer software applications. |

Notes: |
(1) |
Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply. |
(2) |
Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment. |
(3) |
The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and in designated places as assigned. |
