    Principal Lecturer
    Design Discipline

    Major Duties:
    (a) To assist the Principal / Academic Director (Design) in the management, planning and development of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) / Design Discipline;
    (b) To head and manage an academic department of the HKDI and relevant Knowledge Centres, including effective and efficient utilisation of resources;
    (c) To lead the academic planning and development of programmes in Advertising Design, Illustration, User Experience Design, Visual Arts and Culture, Visual Communication Design and other related areas;
    (d) To take up a leading role in Design Discipline for driving key strategic initiatives, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, digitalisation, strategic collaborations in the Greater Bay Area, life-long learning and internationalisation and other new initiatives of the Council and the Discipline;
    (e) To maintain close contacts with industry, commerce, professional bodies and other educational institutes for establishing collaborative arrangement, and promoting and ensuring the relevance and excellence of Vocational and Professional Education and Training;
    (f) To develop and review quality policies and procedures, and to oversee the academic quality of the training programmes of the Design Discipline;
    (g) To initiate new products and services which align with the development of the Design Discipline and the VTC as a whole; and
    (h) To perform teaching duties and/or supervise student projects where necessary.
     
    Requirements:
    (a) A recognised degree and a post-graduate qualification in relevant discipline; preferably with relevant professional qualifications;
    (b) At least 8 years’ relevant teaching and/or industrial experience at an appropriate level of responsibility, with comprehensive knowledge and skills in at least two or more of the following areas: Advertising Design, Illustration, User Experience Design, Visual Communication, Visual Art, Visual Culture;
    (c) Solid experience in programme design and development, implementation of quality assurance policy, assessment and reporting, student admission, or the work areas relevant to the post;
    (d) Strong leadership ability, and good management, interpersonal and team-building skills;
    (e) Good knowledge of quality assurance and accreditation policies in tertiary institutions;
    (f) Goods records of networking ability for organisational development and demonstrated experience in project management; and
    (g) A high level of proficiency and good presentation skills in both Chinese and English, preferably including Putonghua.
     
    Notes:
    (1) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
    (2) Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment.
