    Part-time Technician (Music Technology and Management)

    The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) is a member institute of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), established in 2012.  It is an innovative, professional and entrepreneurial organisation committed to greening and sustainability.  THEi offers more than 20 professional "Applied Science-Oriented" degree programmes across six Academic Departments: Department of Food and Health Sciences, Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering, Department of Sport and Recreation, Department of Hospitality and Business Management, Department of Design and Architecture, and Department of Digital Innovation and Technology.  These programmes cover industries with growth potential in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.  The programmes integrate practical applications with theoretical knowledge to ensure that students can effectively apply what they have learned.  Our degree programmes are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, as well as by the relevant professional bodies where appropriate.  By adopting an applied Science-Oriented teaching approach and focusing on applied Bachelor's degree programmes, THEi equips students with professional skills and knowledge to meet various future challenges upon graduation.  THEi also collaborates closely with the industry and engage students in active learning pedagogies including a strong emphasis on project-based learning involving real-world problem-solving with and for local industries and professions.

    Major Duties:
    (a) Technical Support:
     
    • -
    Provide technical assistance for music technology equipment and software.
     
    • -
    Set up and maintain audio and recording systems for classes and events.
    (b) Equipment Management and Documentation:
     
    • -
    Manage inventory of music technology equipment with documentation of usage and logs, including maintenance and repairs.
     
    • -
    Prepare reports on equipment status and usage for departmental review.
     
    • -
    Ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition and available for student use.
    (c) Studio Construction:
     
    • -
    Collaborate on the design and construction of studios, including recording rooms, control rooms, and sound booths of various sizes.
     
    • -
    Assist in the design and installation of music mixing and processing systems, patch bays, and connections with mixers, microphones, and monitors.
    (d) Project Supervision:
     
    • -
    Work closely with the Assistant Professor to supervise projects and ensure quality control throughout the construction and setup processes.
    (e) Instructional Support:
     
    • -
    To assist in demonstrations and laboratory or practical classes and projects.

    Provide support to students on music software and hardware.
    (f) Event Coordination:
     
    • -
    Support the organization and execution of departmental events, including concerts and workshops.

    Collaborate with department and students to ensure successful technical delivery.
    (g) Research and Development:
     
    • -
    Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in music production and management.
       
    Requirements:
    (a) A recognised diploma or a higher certificate in relevant disciplines;
    (b) At least 2 years’ relevant work experience in music technology, sound engineering, or a related role, with a focus on mechanics, acoustics design, and material design;
    (c) Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs) and music production software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Max MSP or/and Ableton Live);
    (d) Familiarity with various audio and recording equipment;
    (e) Experience in using Windows PC and Mac;
    (f) Have a good interpersonal and communication skills, and good command of English and Chinese;
    (g) Experience working in a team-oriented environment and ability to support diverse learning needs; and
    (h) Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently.
         
    Notes:
    (1) The appointee may be required to perform duties at different sites and work on Saturdays and Sundays as necessary.
    (2) The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
    (3) The appointee will work at Chai Wan Campus.
