    Hong Kong competitor SO Ka-yu won a Medallion of Excellence in the Visual Merchandising and Window Dressing trade in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition held in São Paulo, Brazil in 2015. She is the first Hong Kong compeittior elected by  the WorldSkills Champions Trust as an ambassador

    To enable young people to flex their knowledge and skills acquired, 2018 WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition is inviting applications. Winners of the competition may have the opportunity to represent Hong Kong in the 45th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Kazan, Russia in 2019.

    2018 WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition covers 24 trades under 6 categories: Construction and Building Technology, Creative Arts and Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Personal Services, and Transportation and Logistics. The competition is jointly organised by the Vocational Training Council (VTC), the Construction Industry Council and the Clothing Industry Training Authority. First held in 1996 aiming to promote skills excellence and showcase the talent of young tradesmen, the biennial WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition is committed to providing a platform for young people aged 21 or below to advance their professional skills. Deadline for application is 28 February 2018. Winners stand a chance to represent Hong Kong to participate in the 45th WorldSkills Competition.

    The biennial WorldSkills Competition is hailed as the “Skills Oypmpics”. The 44th WorldSkills Competition held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates last October attracted over 1 300 talented young people from around 60 countries and regions, contesting 51 skills competitions. Team Hong Kong won Bronze Prize in Beauty Therapy and Medallions for Excellence in 7 trades, including Mechatronics, IT Software Solutions for Business, Web Design and Development, Electrical Installations, Mobile Robotics, Hairdressing, and Visual Merchandising. Since first participating in 1997, the Hong Kong Team has won two Gold, one Silver, five Bronze prizes and 46 Medallions for Excellence.

    Apart from showcasing skill excellence, the WorldSkills Competition also provides a good opportunity for young people to extend their horizons and forge global networks. Hong Kong competitor SO Ka-yu won a Medallion of Excellence in the Visual Merchandising and Window Dressing trade in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition held in 2015. Ka-yu was the first Hong Kong competitor elected by the WorldSkills Champions Trust as an ambassador to promote the WorldSkills Competition and help showcase the strengths of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET). After receiving training and exchange with peers in Shanghai and Netherlands, she will take up the role as an ambassador of the 45th WorldSkills Competition to assist in planning promotional and exchange activities.

    Hong Kong permanent residents born on or after 1 January 1997 possessing relevant working experience or knowledge of respective skills are eligible to apply for the 2018 WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition. (Applicants for the Mechatronics trade should be born on or after 1 January 1994).
