VTC Central Admission Scheme welcomes applications by DSE candidates at various campuses
The results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) were released today (10 July). From now until 15 July, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is mounting the VTC Central Admission Scheme at various member institutions to offer DSE candidates a wide and diverse choice of more than 140 full-time programmes that range from Degree to Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma. Prospective applicants can go to all campuses of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and the Chai Wan campus of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), to apply for VTC programmes. On-site interviews will be arranged and successful applicants will be notified of the offer results on the same day. (General entrance requirements are set out in Annex 1.)Meanwhile, “conditional offers” that applicants have received earlier will be converted to confirmed offers if their DSE results meet stipulated requirements. They are required to confirm acceptance of their offers in person at the offering campus between 10:00am and 4:00pm today.
Students who have not yet submitted their applications, without offers or have not accepted the offers, can bring along their DSE result slips and visit IVE, HKDI and THEi (Chai Wan) campuses between today and 15 July to join the Central Admission Scheme for VTC programmes. Details are as follows:

All applicants who are offered places are required to complete registration in person at the offering campus before 12:00 noon on 15 July, or else the offer will become null and void.
In the 2019/20 academic year, VTC will provide about 17,000 places in its full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma programmes, leading to flexible progression pathways for DSE candidates.
At THEi, over 20 vocationally-oriented Degree programmes will be provided by its Faculties of Design and Environment, Management and Hospitality, and Science and Technology, among which 12 are eligible for the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) launched by the Government, in areas of Fashion Design, Product Design, Landscape Architecture, Culinary Arts and Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, Horticulture and Landscape Management, Surveying, Sports and Recreation Management, Building Services Engineering, Multimedia Technology and Innovation, and Information and Communications Technology. Interested students can apply for the SSSDP degree programmes through Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). Eligible students will be entitled to receive annual subsidy amount at HK$41,700 or HK$72,800.
Students can also apply for THEi self-financing undergraduate programmes including Advertising, Professional Accounting, Hotel Operations Management, Public Relations and Management, Health Care, Food Science and Safety, Testing and Certification, Chinese Medicinal Pharmacy and Aircraft Engineering. Eligible students who apply for the Government Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies are entitled to receive an annual subsidy amount at HK$31,300.
IVE, HKDI and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) will provide some 100 Higher Diploma programmes. To support the development of smart cities and innovative technologies in the 21st Century and to meet the resultant manpower demand, VTC will launch a number of new programmes in the coming academic year, including Higher Diploma in AI and Mobile Applications Development, Higher Diploma in Computer and Electronic Engineering, Higher Diploma in Illustration and Higher Diploma in Fitness and Exercise Nutrition. The programmes will nurture talent conversant with smart technologies, design thinking and cross-disciplinary skills.
Apart from Degree and Higher Diploma programmes, VTC will offer eight Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes in the new academic year. The Government has accepted the VTC Diploma of Foundation Studies as equivalent to five DSE subjects at Level 2, including English Language and Chinese Language. Moreover, the Youth College will offer 17 Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) programmes under three major study areas: Business and Services, Engineering and Design and Information Technology. Upon completion of a DVE programme, graduates can pursue higher qualification or enter the job market. Meanwhile, the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI will provide seven employment-focused diploma programmes for entry into their respective professions.
