The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will hold the VTC Programme Selection Info Day next Saturday (5 May) to introduce, to candidates for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE), programmes at levels ranging from Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies to Diploma of Vocational Education. Firsthand information will be provided for the current cohort of DSE candidates to plan for their future. They can also apply for programmes of their choice onsite. The Info day will be held at the campus of VTC member institutions the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Lee Wai Lee. A number of programme selection and discipline talks are planned and with the latest admission intelligence, the Education Advisors will give advice on study planning and programme selection to DSE candidates and parents. Candidates can also make use of the opportunity to chat to the teaching faculties of different disciplines and programmes to learn about the characteristics and admission requirements of VTC programmes, as well as their own progression and employment prospects. Two Parents’ Talks to be conducted by experts from Hok Yau Club provide help for parents to plan with their children for future study and development and also handle the pressure of the DSE results release, together with the children. Info booths will be set up to provide one-stop information on the comprehensive progression pathways from diploma to degree. The visitors will also be introduced to the VTC Earn and Learn Scheme covering a variety of trades. The Scheme integrates both classroom learning and on-the-job training, where participants can make a stable income and enjoy incentive allowances, providing an ideal progression pathway. VTC offers a diversity of progression pathways. For academic year 2018/19, VTC will provide more than 140 full-time programmes including bachelor degrees at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), higher diplomas at IVE, HKDI, the International Culinary Institute (ICI) and the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI), Diploma of Foundation Studies at IVE and Diploma of Vocational Education from Youth College. All of them are suitable for Secondary 6 students to enroll. Separately, the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), CCI and ICI offer related programmes covering culinary, hotel and hospitality services. Youngsters who are interested in entering relevant industries are welcome to apply.
