The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will host a live two-day VTC Programme Selection Info Day (Info Day) on 28 and 29 May. Current Secondary 6 students having sat the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) earlier and their parents can stay home to obtain the latest information on VTC programmes leading to awards including Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies and Diploma of Vocational Education. At the same time, participants can ask our dedicated Education Advisor questions online to prepare for further studies. During the Info Day, VTC will hold a number of online talks. A Programme Selection Talk will be held on 28 May (Thursday, 2pm HKT), featuring a dialogue between the famed disc jockey Sammy LEUNG and the VTC Education Advisor. Together, they will explain admission statistics and programme selection strategies and discuss the edges of the diversified VTC programmes in academic articulation and workplace development. The Parents’ Talk to be hosted by Hok Yau Club adviser NG Po-shing will focus on post-DSE study pathways and provide tips for parents to help their children deal with the pressure of DSE results release. Discipline/Programme talks to be held on the same day will invite teachers of different disciplines or programmes to talk about respective offerings so that DSE candidates can better understand programme curriculums, entrance requirements and their own progression and employment prospects. Interactive question-and-answer (Q&A) sessions will be available during the talks where candidates and parents can ask questions on furthering studies. Prompt replies will be provided by experts and teachers of respective disciplines/programmes. The above VTC Programme Selection Talk, Parents’ Talk and Discipline/Programme talks will be re-run online on 29 May (Friday). The interactive Q&A session will be in place where the Education Advisor and teachers from different disciplines/programmes will instantly answer real-time enquiries about individual disciplines or programmes from Diploma to Degree levels. Interested DSE candidates and parents may register for the talks at www.vtc.edu.hk/infoday. VTC provides DSE candidates with diversified progression pathways. In the academic year of 2020/21, around 140 full-time programmes tailored for Secondary 6 students will be offered, of which about 120 are subvented ones. These include Degree programmes of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), Higher Diploma programmes of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the International Culinary Institute (ICI) and the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI), IVE Diploma of Foundation Studies, and Diploma of Vocational Education of Youth College. Separately, the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), CCI and ICI offer related programmes covering culinary, hotel and hospitality services. Youngsters who are interested in entering relevant industries are welcome to apply. To facilitate students to explore further study information required for choosing preferred programmes, the application deadline has been extended till 30 May. Secondary 6 students are welcome to apply online. Eligible applicants who apply by the application deadline will have the chance to get conditional offer(s) in early June, and thus standing in good stead to gain entry to their preferred programmes.
