Results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) were released today (22 July). In light of the latest development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) Central Admission Scheme will be run online starting today until 27 July. Applicants are not required to apply at campuses on site. In academic year 2020/21, the VTC will offer around 140 full-time programmes, leading to the awards of Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma, providing diversified progression pathways for Secondary 6 students. Among these programmes, about 120 are subvented programmes. VTC Online Central Admission Scheme for Secondary 6 Entry started at 9:00am today and the operation is largely smooth. As of 10:00 am, about 20,000 visitors have visited the Online Central Admission system, including applicants applying for VTC Degree, Higher Diploma and Diploma programmes as well as applicants confirming acceptance of their "firm offer". “Conditional offers” that applicants have received earlier will be converted to “confirmed offers” today if the applicants’ HKDSE results meet the stipulated requirements. These applicants are required to confirm offer acceptance through the online system between 9:00am and 4:00pm today. For new applicants and applicants without offers, they can apply for their preferred programmes online during the VTC Central Admission Scheme period starting today until 27 July through the online system. Applicants will be notified of the offer result via email (Remark: Fresh applicants should create an account through the VTC Admissions Homepage and log on to the system to join the Online Central Admission Scheme). All applicants who have been offered places are required to complete the online registration before 12:00 noon on 27 July, or else the offer will become null and void. In academic year 2020/2021, the VTC will provide a wide range of full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma programmes tailored for Secondary 6 students, leading to diversified and flexible progression pathways for HKDSE candidates. For Higher Diploma programmes, some 90 of about 100 programmes offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and International Culinary Institute (ICI) are subvented. In response to the latest developments of innovative technologies and smart cities, IVE will provide an array of programmes in the new academic year to equip students with professional applied skills and new digital skills. These include: IVE Higher Diploma in Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Robotics programme, which nurtures engineering talents conversant with skills of robotics; AI programming, automation, system integration and application to tie in with the growing industry trends of leveraging technologies like automation and AI to drive productivity; and the Higher Diploma programmes in Cybersecurity and in Multimedia, VR and Interactive Technology offered by IVE Information Technology Discipline for grooming professionals in the fields of information security as well as multimedia design and development. To cater to the different aspirations and progression needs of Secondary 6 students, the VTC will also offer over 30 subvented diploma programmes. IVE/HKDI will provide eight Diploma of Foundation Studies. As the Government has accepted the VTC Diploma of Foundation Studies as equivalent to five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 (including Chinese Language and English Language), graduates are eligible to apply for related positions in the civil service. Meanwhile, the Youth College will offer 17 Diploma of Vocational Education programmes, covering study areas of Business and Services, Engineering as well as Design and Information Technology, to provide seamless and flexible progression pathways for students and equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to pave the way for future success in their studies and career. The Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI will also provide seven employment-focused diploma programmes to help students join the respective professions. Furthermore, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) will offer vocationally-oriented degree programmes, including those covered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) and self-financing degree programmes. Students who are eligible to apply for the Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong (NMTSS) will be entitled to an annual non-means-tested subsidy amounting to HK$32,100. The degree programmes cover various areas such as Environmental Engineering and Management, Building Services Engineering, Aircraft Engineering, Health Care, Food Science and Safety, and Advertising.
