The Vocational Training Council (VTC) held the Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Awardees Sharing Session today (26 April). Every year 50 VTC students aspiring to vocational and professional education and training (VPET) will be awarded the Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship in support of their study and pursuit of professional development. Rotary International District 3450 has supported VTC on a long term basis in driving VPET through establishing scholarships and bursaries and upgrading campus facilities, including the pledge of HK$6.5 million to set up the Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship. Starting this academic year, 50 VTC students pursuing Diploma of Foundation Studies, Higher Diploma, and Degree programmes and in need of financial assistance will be awarded scholarships annually to the value of HK$10,000, HK$20,000 and HK$35,000 respectively for their study needs. Addressing the awardees, VTC Chairman Dr Clement CHEN said: “The ocean of learning is boundless, particularly in the 21st Century where one can see the extensive sweep of information technology and globalisation. I hope you would put your scholarship to good use for enhancing your professional knowledge and personal abilities as well as understanding the needs of society and extending your horizons. This way you will be able to reciprocate and contribute to the community through your professional efforts in future.” District Governor of Rotary International District 3450 Dr Peter PANG said the scholarships presented today were the fruit of collaborative ventures between Rotary International District 3450 and VTC. He added, “Students benefitting from these scholarships will one day have their potential unleashed, which will result in further personal and societal development.” Rotary International District 3450 established the Rotaract Club in different VTC campuses with a view to training up the organisation and leadership abilities of students conducive to the development of society. Attaining a level of academic achievement apart, the 50 scholarship awardees actively took part in in extracurricular activities and community service in order to nurture their leadership and service spirit. This year’s Higher Diploma and Degree recipients will again be awarded scholarships next year should they attain the required level of performance in academic results and community service. In recognition of Rotary International District 3450’s contribution to VPET, the learning resources centre of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Sha Tin, member institution of VTC, was named the Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources last year.
